FREDDY BANNISTER rock promoter/festival founder - Book design
Freddy Bannister was a leading promoter during the sixties and seventies and founder of the Bath Festival of Blues and the legendary Knebworth festivals. He has promoted an extensive list of artists such as The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Pink Floyd, The Yardbirds, The Byrds, Ike & Tina Turner, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, Moody Blues, Canned Heat, Steppenwolf, Santana and Fairport Convention.
He founded the Knebworth festivals and ran the first seven festivals which were headlined in 1974 by The Allman Brothers, 1975 The Pink Floyd, 1976 The Rolling Stones and Lynyrd Skynyrd, 1978 (June) Genesis 1978 (September) Frank Zappa/Peter Gabriel and 1979 Led Zeppelin.
Having worked with Freddy on a number of memorabilia projects in the past and we were asked to design a cover for his 330 page biography entitled 'There Must Be A Better Way'.
We decided to use some of the original tickets, flyers, posters, photographs and programmes from Freddie's concerts and outside festivals to create a panoramic montage as if laying on grass. The montage wraps around the book and is complemented by silver and white text on black header and footer.
